About Hanoi

Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam and the country’s second largest city, is known for its centuries-old architecture and a rich culture with Southeast Asian, Chinese and French influences. Hanoi is located in the Red River Delta in the centre of Northern Vietnam.



 

 

Weather

Hanoi has two main seasons: rainy season (from January to September), and dry season (from October to April). In early September, the average temperature is highs around 31 and lows around 24 degrees Celsius. Rain is possible. The conference will be held in an air-conditioned hotel, so a light jacket or sweater may be appropriate.



Currency

The currency of Vietnam is Vietnamese Dong (VND).

Banking

There are a number of international banks operating in Hanoi with 24-hour cash withdrawal facilities. Most ATMs enables you to get cash from VISA, MASTER CARD, Cirrus, Maestro, Plus and JCB network.
 

 

Time

Vietnam Standard time is GMT+7. Vietnam does not observe daylight savings. 

 

 

Electricity

The usual voltage is 220V, 50 cycles. Electrical sockets usually accommodate plugs with two round pins or two flat prongs. You may wish to bring a plug adapter with you.

 

 

Telecommunications 

International phone charges are fairly reasonable in Vietnam. However, do check the rates before making a call from your hotel. Fax can be sent from hotels, business centers or post offices.  To call abroad, precede the number you wish to dial with 171; this code gives you a reduced flat rate to 50 countries. If you need a local mobile sim, you can purchase it at the airport or ask a local staff to help you to purchase a local or international sim.

 

 

Transport 

The main means of transport in Hanoi are motorbikes, traditional cyclos or taxis.

Generally, motorbikes and cyclos costs are from about 20,000VND/1 km trip.
